I see elsewhere that some Argyle fans are actually annoyed he's gone to Bristol City. What? Did they think he was coming here?? Surely they're not THAT deluded?? Bristol City are effing LIGHT YEARS ahead of Argyle both on and off the pitch!! They are a club very much on the way up with proper investment both ON AND OFF the pitch whereas we are the complete opposite.

I do believe he has some connections in the Newton Abbot area [he may even live there] and said a while back that he would like to play for Argyle one day and get them into the premiership.Money and ambition still talk though and we may have to wait for another 10 years before he joins us but i suppose you could say he's gradually getting further west.

Dunno that I would be particually excited if he had joined us. Peter Shilton did not set the world alight.

My thoughts exactly.. Load of money pissed up a wall just so Britol City can say 'wooo look at us!' ...will he make any difference to their on field fortunes? i very much doubt it

James is currently England's number 1 yet the Aviva mentality still prevails
City may or may not achieve Prem League status in the coming seasons but they are certainly building on solid foundations in every area of the club.
The only one at HP who is doing any straight, realistic talking is Monkey Heed, bless him.

Sorry Trin, i just do not see why paying a 40 year old goalkeeper 20,000 pounds a week is a good business investment, when there are other capable keepers that could do just as good a job for half of that ?? its rule no 1 in any business scenario. If it gets to the stage when your goalkeeper becomes your key position then some things gone fundamentally wrong.
Englands no 1 lol that dont count for much these days then

Football is supposed to be about entertainment and seeing big name stars. Bristol City have absolutely done the right thing by signing James. That signing along with the appointment of Steve Coppel is a real huge statement of intent that is bound to give the crowds at Ashton Gate a massive boost. And imagine the sales of the goalkeepers shirt with Englands No1 name on the back!

I wish Argyle were in a position to sign a massive name like David James. But with our useless 'board' it's not about on pitch stuff it's all about bean counters and ambigious, nebulous property development 'plans' while we nose dive down through the divisions.

I predict Bristol City will go up to the Prem and we will be in a desparate relegation scrap to avoid dropping to the basement.

It is a statement of intent and he undoubtedly is one of the best keepers around. His experience will be invaluable to defensive team mates in particular. Coppel is a calm and considered manager. He knows what he's doing.
To be big, you have to think and act big. Something Argyle have never done.
David James and Neil Warnock will probably end up at HP for their retirement benefits and then, when it's too late, the Aviva boys will get over excited again.
